Here’s the final of four video interviews I did with Trojan players earlier this month. Sellers is vying for a starting spot in the secondary, so this is a big spring for him. He played locally at Pike Liberal Arts in high school.
Not sure when I’ll be able to do this again for football, maybe during spring practice, but I definitely hope to get a few basketball and baseball guys in the next few weeks.
To find videos of the past that I’ve done, go to youtube.com and search dothaneagletroy
IN CASE YOU MISSED THE FIRST THREE

Is Troy’s basketball team for real? The Trojans pulled off what you could say was a stunner, winning at UALR, a team that was 14-5, 6-1 in Sun Belt play and a very good defensive team at that. The Trojans never trailed. Well, Troy’s starting to make some real noise in the Sun Belt. Real in that, at the halfway point, the Trojans are 6-3 in the league, tied for second in the East with Middle Tennessee, and a game out of first place in the entire league behind UALR and Western Kentucky.
It’s not the same team that lost by 23 on Dec. 11 at MTSU. The tough games remain against Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and South Alabama, but all are at home. At North Texas next Thursday will be tough, because Troy’s never played well there.
Troy’s dribble-drive offense is getting the team good looks at the basket and guards Michael Vogler and Richard Delk are proving to be all-conference type players. Brandon Hazzard is one of the best shooters in the league, Troy’s big men are competing well, and the bench isn’t a dropoff like other teams. We’ll see what happens.
Here are some STATS from the game. Here’s a perspective from the Democrat-Gazette, and another one from ArkansasSports360.com.
Sherrod’s status: Former Troy standout safety Sherrod Martin started at cornerback in yesterday’s Senior Bowl and had three tackles and one pass breakup. I’ll find some reports on how he did last week. Tommy Hicks in Mobile had good things to say. Looking elsewhere, This guy says he had a good day of practice earlier this week and this guy found a flaw. It’s all subjective.

Here are some tentative football spring practice dates. It starts on March 18 and goes through April 9.
March 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, April 1, 3, 7, 9
There is a scrimmage on March 21, which is also the weekend that Western Kentucky, the team likely predicted to win the Sun Belt, is in for a 3-game baseball series.
The spring game is March 28.
There’s another scrimmage for April 3, a Friday. Not sure if that will be all-out or a scrimmage for the reserves, or a kicking scrimmage.

Troy dominated the first half and withstood a late New Orleans run to win 83-72 at Trojan Arena. Trojans are 10-10 (who would have thought that?) and 5-3 in Sun Belt play. That’s the first time Troy has ever won three straight Sun Belt games and it’s one win more than they won all of last year.
Good thing for you guys is that Jon Johnson and I double-covered the game, and I’m sure Jon will be back to write more columns on Troy basketball as well. Like head coach Don Maestri was saying after the game, “They’re a fun team to watch.“
Here’s my game story. It led with Big Shot Brandon’s (that’s a moniker I tabbed him with last Saturday and it seems to be catching on, like the Killer B’s) performance, as the junior guard was clutch again late in the game. This kid can really score the basketball and has one of the best shooting touches I’ve seen in the years I’ve covered Troy.
Troy plays at UALR, easily the best team in the Sun Belt West Division and a tough matchup for the Trojans because of how physical they play. This road game, plus next Thursday’s at North Texas, another team Troy can’t seem to come close to staying in the game with in Denton, will be tough, but neither are impossible.
VIDEO 1 - Some second-half action as Troy pulls away late.
VIDEO 2 - Players and coach Don Maestri after the game. Sorry, you might have to put your ear to your speeakers to hear the players. We asked Brandon Hazzard (middle) about his hot streak and the big 3 he hit late in the game, and I asked Richard Delk (left) if he thought success would come this soon while he sat out last year as a transfer from Misssissippi State.
