1:08 p.m. EDIT - I won’t be going to Troy today for my own safety. I live in a small community of 2,000 people just a few miles outside of Dothan called Taylor, and the first three ways I tried to get out of town were blocked by police cars and floods. There were probably more ways to get out, but not time-efficient, so I’m staying home for the day. Fall scrimmage I’m there, spring scrimmage without a QB battle I’m not placing as much emphasis on. I’ll call the coordinators tomorrow to get their takes.
Check TroyTrojans.com for the latest stats, etc.
11:20 a.m.. - As of this time, the scrimmage is still on
Here’s the feature I wrote on Troy linebackers Donnell Golden and Xavier Lamb. Call them “X-Man and D-Man” or the other way around.
Omar Haugabook is now a Houma Counqueror, which is in the Southern Indoor Football League, set to begin its first year of play.
First, the postponement of Wednesday’s game with Auburn. Now, the first game of the series at New Orleans has been pushed back to a Saturday doubleheader.
The rain in there should be in Southeast Alabama tomorrow. The scrimmage is still on for 2 p.m., but I wouldn’t be shocked to see it get pushed back because of the rain. I do have a feature on Troy linebackers Donnell Golden and Xavier Lamb and the nickname they have for themselves tomorrow.
When I hear something, you’ll hear something. So, it might be a good idea to sign up for twitter updates by clicking the link on the right.
As best as I know it, the scrimmage is still on for 2 p.m. Saturday. If that changes, I’ll let you know.
Troy baseball is on the road for a series at New Orleans. That probably is now a must-sweep since New Orleans isn’t near as good as it was last year. Right now, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky are 8-1 in league play. Troy is 2-4. It seems so far back, but there’s a long way to go.
I figured now would be a good time to check out Troy’s opponents and see what they’re up to.
FAU - Owls look to reclaim the Belt from the Palm Beach Post. Also, Sun-Sentinel beat writer Ted Hutton’s blog.
FIU - Anthony Gaitor becoming face of FIU defense from the Miami Herald, plus Pete Pelegrin’s blog, which has some good recruiting news for the Golden Panthers.
Middle Tennessee - Instead of linking just one article, here is the DNJ’s MTSU football page on BlueRaiders.com. A picture of Tony Franklin graces the main story.
Arkansas State - Spring practice finished until after spring break from the ASU Herald.
UL-Lafayette - Cajuns strong on defense again - from the Daily Advertiser. Remember, ULL is looking for a quarterback this year.
UL-Monroe - Quarterback position Revell’s job to lose - from The News-Star. ULM is also looking for a QB, but it’s likely going to be Trey Revell, who came off the bench and marched ULM down the field late in the game last year to beat Troy.
North Texas - D-line is resilient for North Texas from the Denton Record-Chronicle. Also, Brett Vito’s blog
Western Kentucky hasn’t started spring practice yet and I couldn’t find anything recent.
Bowling Green - Clawson envisions future - from the Toledo Blade on Troy’s season-opening opponent. That’ll be a Thursday night, Sept. 3.
