Saw a Lindy’s football magazine tonight
June 01, 2009
I was at the grocery store and went to the reading section and saw a Lindy’s college football magazine. I didn’t buy one because usually one pops up in our office soon, but ...
Troy is ranked No. 83. Not sure about that. Really not sure about that, but a lot of these bigger magazine editors look down on the non-BCS conferences. That’s why Phil Steele’s magazine is the best, because they guy analyzes every person on the roster and about every situation imaginable.
Usually, a local writer familiar with the conference is hired to break down the league. Monte Hale of the Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro did the Sun Belt roundup.
***He listed DuJuan Harris as the Offensive Player of the Year. That’s a bit surprising, but Hale loves him some Harris after Harris’ huge performance in Troy’s 31-17 win at MTSU to open last season. There are probably a few other league guys I would have put in that spot on a preseason list, but he’ll get plenty of touches through the air and on the ground in this offense. The big question will be if any backups earn more time.
***Harris, Jerrel Jernigan, Danny Franks, Brandon Lang, Boris Lee and Bear Woods (and I think Cameron Sheffield, but I’m not totally sure) are first-teamers. Sam Glusman is a second-teamer. Surely I’m missing something. Anyone with a magazine, please let me know.
***On the top 10 pro prospects (freshman through seniors), Lang is No. 1. Lee is on there and Josh Jarboe is listed at No. 10.
***Levi Brown is listed as the most accurate passer, but isn’t on the first or second team. ASU’s Corey Leonard, the Preseason SBC Player of the Year, is a first-teamer and FAU’s Rusty Smith is on the second team. ASU defensive end Alex Carrington, I think, was the Defensive Player of the Year
***The magazine listed Bowling Green as the 82nd best team and had UAB around 102 or 105. Troy was the pick to win the league, followed by ASU. That’s how I would predict it at this time.
