At the Troy-FAU game

By Drew Champlin

Things already got chippy between the two teams. Check out Ted’s blog for a pregame picture.

A cool note, center Danny Franks proposed to his girlfriend during Senior Day festivities. Troy photographer Kevin Glackmeyer got a shot of it, so we’re told.

WR Josh Jarboe won’t dress today. We haven’t been told why.

I think there’s a Jorrick Calvin sighting on the sidelines.

GAMEDAY: Fau at Troy

By Drew Champlin

Be sure to tune in to CSS at 3:15 p.m. for Troy’s Sun Belt tilt with FAU. Trojans can wrap up league title with a win today, though I am not sure if they will accept a New Orleans Bowl bid that comes with it.

Been covering AISA all day, so didn’t get to do a big breakdown. It’s suppose to rain, and that probably favors FAU because they’re a pound-it-out team nowadays with a good rush attack. Troy will have to get things going on the ground if that happens, and FAU’s defense might just let it.

PREDICTION: I can’t get a good feel for this game. I don’t think Troy will lose, because the Trojans have more firepower, but that Sun Belt letdown hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it won’t happen this year. Troy 28, FAU 17

For some links, go HERE for my advancer. Check out the Sun-Sentinel’s scouting of Troy HERE and check THIS out for some predictions. Go HERE for the FAUOwlAccess.com preview with their picks.

Let’s look around the Sun Belt. At 11:30 a.m., FIU is at Florida. Go with UF 56-13. At 3 p.m., Army is at North Texas. UNT wins this one 26-14. There are two pretty big games around the league, with Middle Tennessee hosting Arkansas State at 3:30 p.m. and ULM-ULL at 6 p.m. I’ll take MTSU 41-17 and ULM 28-24.

—————————————————————

On the hardwood, Troy lost at Florida, 80-58. Trojans led by one at half, but shot terrible in the second half. Trojans wouldn’t have beaten William Carey if Brandon Hazzard goes 2-for-13 with 5 points.

I saw the second half, and Troy looked like a team that just quit playing its style of basketball and started panicking on offense. That’s about the best way I can explain it, but it’s Game 3, so I think this team will get it all corrected.

Some baseball talk

November 20, 2009

By Drew Champlin

First off, Troy announced its signing class of 13 players today. From talking to coaches, it’s the best they’ve had. Sounds like a very good group.

The headliner is Windemere, Fla., LHP Jimmy Hodgskin, who is actually on his official visit this weekend. He’s a big-time LHP that’s going to get drafted high if scouts meet his money demands, but if he comes to Troy, it’ll be big for the Trojans.

Troy finished up fall practice a few weeks ago. If they open tomorrow, the lineup would look like this.

C - Steven Felix or Todd McRae
1B - Ryan Ditthardt
2B - J.R. Myers or T.J. Rivera
SS - Adam Bryant
3B - Chase Whitley (JUCO transfer could end up being Troy’s top player)
LF - Miles Hoyle
CF - Steven Rosado
RF - Chad Watson
DH - either Jake Sullivan or one of the OFs with Felix moving from catcher to OF. Blake Martz is also a possibility

The weekend rotation would look like this: Tyler Ray, Andrew Dickinson, Drew Hull, with the top closers being Whitley and Nick Ward. Obviously, the weekend rotation after Ray and the midweek/middle relief guys will have to step up for this team to have a good year, because I think they’ll hit.

Friday links

By Drew Champlin

It’s a long day for me, as I’ll be in Troy covering the AISA championships, trying to find the next hidden gem. Is there another Kyle Wilborn dominating the pack? I guess I’ll find out

First, I wrote THIS notebook as wideout TeBiarus Gill looks to bounce back from a rough game last week.

From the Sun-Sentinel, the game at a glance and an O-Line story.

From FAUOwlAccess.com, a video preview.

Finally, our video preview
