Basketball postseason updates
March 01, 2009
Baseball was snowed out today, so nothing from there.
On the men’s side, Troy (No. 3 seed) will play the winner of South Alabama (6) and New Orleans (11) at 9 p.m. Sunday March 8. The first-round games are Wednesday, so UNO and South Alabama will play in Mobile that day.
Win that, play Monday at 9 p.m. against either UALR (No. 2) or Denver (7)/UL-Monroe (10).
Win that, the championship is Tuesday at 9 p.m. on ESPN2. Unfortunately I won’t be in Hot Springs, but holding out hopes I’ll get to go to the NCAA Tournament should Troy pull it off in Hot Springs. If that happens, say a few prayers for Miami and Greensboro as they are the sites within driving distance.
ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE, Troy is the No. 4 seed, finishing 2nd in a 5-way tiebreaker. The good news is that the Trojans host 0-18 UL-Lafayette Wednesday, so a trip to Hot Springs is in the cards for both Troy basketball teams. A win Wednesday puts Troy against the winner of No. 5 South Alabama vs. No. 12 FIU Saturday in Hot Springs.
All things considered, it’s been a pretty good year on the hardwood for Troy basketball teams, don’t you think?
