Marcus Monk

It’s out there now, but Arkansas (Troy’s first opponent) wide receiver Marcus Monk suffered a knee injury yesterday in the Hogs’ practice.

In Tom Murphy of the Democrat-Gazette’s report, the news is better than expected for Monk. It’s a bone bruise, not a torn ACL or cartilage as most feared. But, he could still miss the opener against Troy.

That’s big news, as the Hogs have no passing game to speak of unless they throw it up to the 6-foot-6 Monk. Elbert Mack and Leodis McKelvin are good cover corners, but are at least 6-7 inches shorter than Monk. It’s like last year in the Florida State game, when a similar-sized Greg Carr basically stood there and caught a touchdown pass over Mack.

A lot more will be known of the injury in 3-4 days.

Here’s a link to the Romanique Lewis feature. Guy’s had a lot of tough injury luck in his career but when healthy, he’s been pretty good.
