Recruiting update, plus Wednesday links

Troy’s commitment list is down three. Junior college guys Teavis Durgin, Talris Brown and Aaron Ward won’t be re-signing with the Trojans in 2010. It doesn’t matter much what rivals.com or scout.com says. They don’t have the knowledge of Troy recruiting that I have. It’s not a big loss and likely due to not making the grades in time to get out of JUCO.

Here is the current list

2010 Troy commitments
High School
Luke Barnes (QB, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.)
Khary Franklin (WR/ATH, Valdosta, Ga.)
Dalton Bennett (OL, Marianna, Fla.)
Tommy Stephens (DL, Marianna, Fla.)
Dantavious Jeffery. (DE, Douglasville, Ga.)
Brach Bessant, (LB, Lake City, Fla.)
Joe Lofton, (DB, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.)
Fidel Montgomery, (DB, Marianna, Fla.)
JUCO
Greg Jenkins, (QB, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC)
Brett Moncrief, (WR, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC)

But one commitment is still exploring options as wideout Brett Moncrief is a hot commodity. He and teammate Greg Jenkins, a QB, committed this summer.

Troy had some unofficial visitors at the game Saturday, but the only one I’m for sure of that is a target is big offensive lineman Kenarious Gates of Greenville, Ga. HERE is his scout.com profile.

HERE is a feature I wrote on cornerback Bryan Willis, who could have been a pretty good running back here at Troy. Also, HERE is a notebook I wrote for today.

RUSTY OUT: Bad news for FAU senior Rusty Smith, whose college career is over because of a shoulder injury. FAU will start junior Jeff Van Camp from here on out.

This seems to be the year for QB injuries around the Sun Belt. ULM’s QBs have been beaten up and UNT’s Riley Dodge has missed a couple of games with injuries.
