Tom Jervis isn’t done playing basketball.

The former Troy center, one of the few 7-footers in the country last year, has inked a deal with Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club in Weissenfels, Germany. He’ll head over there Aug. 12 or 13 to get started. Right now, he’s in his hometown of Perth, Australia, so this brief interview was conducted through e-mail.

If you can understand German, HERE is a link to the club’s Web site.

“The League is very good over there,“ Jervis said. “The team I signed with did very well in the second division and got bumped up to the first, so its very strong.“

He’ll head to a style of basketball that’s much different than he’s been used to at Troy. Trojan basketball is known for its faster pace, but the European style is more conducive to the half-court game, Jervis said.

Unfortunately, he won’t get to join the team on its late-summer trip to France. A school can take one of those every four years and every player that’s been at Troy at least a year will be eligible to play, including the graduated seniors like Jervis, Mario Telfair, Josh Williams and Kenny Ware, though I doubt Ware’s going if he’s still playing football.

I asked Tom a guy to watch out for next year, and his thoughts on Troy’s returning team.

“Well besides Mike (Vogler), (Brandon) Hazzard and (Richard) Delk I think I guy to look out for is (Bernard) Toombs,“ Jervis said. “He was working hard on his game last year and during the summer. I think he is going to have a good year. I’m also picking this team to take out the Sun Belt this season. I think they are going to build on the season we had last year.“

Toombs, a 6-foot-10 center who redshirted last year, will have a chance to take over the starting role Jervis leaves behind.
