Troy 50, UNT 26
October 24, 2009
POSTGAME LINKS: HERE is my game story and HERE is my notebook.
From the UNT side, HERE is beat writer Brett Vito’s blog.
Troy beat North Texas 50-26 to improve to 4-0 in league play, 5-2 overall. Levi Brown threw for a school-record 469 yards. He’s got a chance for another SBC Player of the Week award, but Middle Tennessee’s Dwight Dasher put up some good numbers against a bad, very bad, WKU team and FAU’s Rusty Smith lit up a poor UL-Lafayette defense. North Texas’ defense isn’t very good itself, but Levi put up his numbers in three quarters.
HOW THE GAME WAS WON: Troy’s offense was almost unstoppable and hit a bunch of big plays against the UNT defense. From the start, as Troy went down the field on its first drive, it was pretty much over.
Now, UNT has an offense that can gather up some yards. I was very impressed with Lance Dunbar, the UNT running back. He packs a punch (arond 215 pounds) and he’s pretty fast.
WHAT IT MEANS: Well, Troy and UL-Monroe are the lone unbeatens in Sun Belt play, though I still think Middle Tennessee is the 2nd best team. If Troy beats ULM, it has Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic and UL-Lafayette left on the schedule. Not exactly a run through the gauntlet, but Troy has a history of slip-ups in the past. However, I think that slip-up was against Bowling Green to start the season.
VIDEO: I had a video of Levi Brown meeting Sim Byrd after the game. Problem is, the first 30 seconds was me forgetting to turn the camera off and it’s looking at the ground while I talk to people. The video file kept crashing the computers in the office, and my personal computer can’t seem to pull up the video (though it can do the audio). I’ve still got some other options, but I’m definitely going to try to get the video up.
Of course, it also has Micah Grimes’ thoughts on the game. Can’t miss that, either.
