Troy lands quarterback commitment

Luke Barnes, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., committed to Troy Saturday. I got the confirmation from him just a minute ago. More coming.

Barnes committed to Troy Saturday night. He went to a system camp there a week ago, he said. Fort Walton Beach runs the same spread offense that Troy runs.

When I said, “are you just a thrower, or can you run a little bit too?“ he said “oh yeah, I can run.“ Barnes said he runs a 4.6 in the 40.

“I felt like I had a good connection with the coaches,“ Barnes said. “It seemed like the right time to commit. I was going to go ahead and do it early.“

Barnes said he was finished with recruiting and wanted to get it over with to relieve the pressure before his season started.

Barnes said he had recruiting interest from Southern Miss, South Florida, Alabama and Auburn.

Still trying to find out complete stats from junior year, but at one point late last season, Barnes had 1,924 yards and 20 touchdowns with just three interceptions.

Looking up some links, Barnes had a big spring game, from the NW Florida Daily News.

HERE is Barnes’ scout.com profile.
