Troy readies for ULM

It’s Halloween week, but for the Troy football team, it’s time to focus on UL-Monroe, the other unbeaten in the Sun Belt. The game is at 6 p.m., which I think is poor scheduling on the part of the athletics department. Little kids want to go Trick or Treat? Or dress up as Bear Woods and come to the game? I do think the game at night on Halloween will negatively affect attendance, but Alabama is off and Auburn’s playing at 11 a.m.

ULM is coming off a loss at Kentucky, but played well, outgaining the ‘Cats but not being able to cash in on opportunities. Starting QB Trey Revell broke his thumb on his throwing hand two weeks ago. At that time, his status was uncertain for the Troy game. If he can’t go, ULM will send redshirt freshman Cody Wells, who is from Spain Park up the road in Hoover. Not sure what recruiting interest there was in Wells, but the Trojans signed Dantavious Parker and Corey Robinson in the same year Wells signed with ULM.

Troy has won five straight after starting the season 0-2. ULM, which returned 18 starters and switched to a 3-3-5 defense to utilize speed on that side of the ball, is 4-3, 3-0 in league play. I’d say that, in the last four years, ULM has proven to be the toughest opponent the Trojans have faced.

“We’re playing really well,“ Troy quarterback Levi Brown said. “The key to that is that we’re practicing really well which we didn’t do at the beginning of the year when we lost two games. That’s the main key to us winning right now so we’ve got to remember what got us here and keep working hard in practice.“
