Taking issue with two letters

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Elaine Herrin Onley’s Sept. 4 letter to the editor (“What was McCain thinking?”) was odiously predictable. For just one example, she quoted some nameless source in saying that Sarah Palin is a candidate who has “the thinnest foreign policy experience in our nation’s history,” but that’s simply not true.

The beloved Barack Obama’s experience is even thinner than hers in every category. Besides that, she’s done about 20 times as much in her elected positions — positive changes, no less — than he has in his time as a junior senator. There was that silly diatribe about Palin abandoning her children, which she has never done and will never do. Then there’s that mysteriously designed “O” symbol on Obama’s plane that looks suspiciously like a full moon rising over what’s left of an American flag. News flash! Allah is, at his roots, a moon god. Go figure.

Another reader whose Sept. 4 letter I took issue with was Fletcher Moore, who seems to think that everybody in non-government jobs works very hard and those who are employed in government jobs are all lazy bums.

Excuse me? I worked in non-government jobs as an automobile technician for 25 years, and I work as hard or harder now as a college automotive instructor than I did at any time in my professional career as an automotive technician, and with a lot more responsiblity.

In my professional career as a technician, I saw a lot of people in non-government jobs who were lazy and irresponsible, and didn’t pull their weight. There are a lot of shoes Mr. Moore hasn’t even worn, let alone walked in.
