Former Dothan High School principal Andrew Sewell is a free man, and has been for about a month.
Sewell, 42, was released from the Houston County Jail on Nov. 22 after serving about half of a one-year sentence for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Sewell’s stay in the Houston County Jail was shortened by the state’s good time policy. Good time is credit prisoners receive for time served on good behavior.
“If you’re sentenced to 180 days you actually serve 154 on good time credit,” said Keith Reed, Houston County Jail commander.
Sewell pleaded guilty in April to three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, including allegations he had sex with a 17-year-old female student of Dothan High and supplied alcohol on two occasions to the same student.
Circuit Judge Butch Binford sentenced Sewell to serve a year at the Houston County Jail as part of his plea agreement. Sewell was arrested in February and was out on bond until he began serving his sentence on May 14.
