Jamin' motorcyle ride to coincide with BamaJam

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A new sound will be heard this year at the BamaJam Music & Arts Festival – that of motorcycle engines.

BamaJam has teamed up with the Wiregrass Division of the Alabama March of Dimes for a 35-mile ride from Dothan to BamaJam, with a stop at Enterprise Power Sports.

The BamaJam Bikers for Babes is part of the March of Dimes’ statewide Bikers for Babies annual fundraising ride to Talladega, held each August. Those who participate in the BamaJam ride, which is $35, will be able to ride in the August ride for free.

Kickin’ Country 93.7 is the radio sponsor for the BamaJam ride, which could include an exciting grand marshall, a possible BamaJam artist, who tentatively will lead the ride in a convertible. The radio station has sent messages to the agents of various artists.

Organizers have publicized the ride statewide and hope to attract at least 100 riders.

Cue McCollister, community director of the Wiregrass Division of the March of Dimes, said the idea for the BamaJam ride came from local radio personality Rick Miller, who is also a biker.

“He suggested we have an event to ride to and I said, ‘What about BamaJam?’ We thought it would be great,” McCollister said, “so we called the BamaJam people and arranged a meeting.”

McCollister said Ronnie Gilley Entertainment was happy to cosponsor the ride and include it as one more option for festivalgoers.

The ride will take place next Saturday June 6, with bikers meeting at Flying J Travel Plaza on Ross Clark Circle beginning at 8 a.m. for registration. Bikers will leave at 10 a.m. and ride to Enterprise Power Sports at 1032 Boll Weevil Circle.

Other riders will join the group there and ride the approximately eight miles to the BamaJam site on County Road 156 (Boy Scout Road). The group leaves Enterprise at 11:30 a.m., arriving at BamaJam at noon.

At BamaJam, there will be a designated parking area for bikers – the Hog Pen. Those with BamaJam tickets will be served lunch in this area.

For those with tickets, the ride itself is $35, with all proceeds going to March of Dimes. For passengers, the cost is $10. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

Bikers can go on line to www.bamajammusicfestival.com and purchase tickets to the concert and ride for $134. One-day tickets to BamaJam will be available at Enterprise Power Sports.

“There have been a lot of people purchasing BamaJam tickets on line using the biker code,” McCollister said. “Ronnie Gilley is allowing us to have a booth there at no cost.”

Other ride sponsors include Enterprise Power Sports, Dothan Pediatrics, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Knology.
