ASHFORD -- A small child was ejected during a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 near Ashford on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 84 and Old Highway 84 at about 3:05 p.m. A Nissan Murano driven by Sandra Lynn Blunt, 42, of Dothan, was headed westbound on U.S. 84 and struck a Ford Focus driven by Vanessa Lashay Pender, 28, of Gordon, who was crossing the highway on Old Highway 84.

According to the Alabama Highway Patrol, a 5-year-old child in Pender’s car was restrained, but a 3-year-old child was not and ended up being ejected from the car. Pender and the two children were taken to Southeast Alabama Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates Pender failed to yield the right of way to Blunt.
