Geneva County Sheriff's investigators arrested nine people, including a mother and son, as part of an undercover drug investigation dubbed Operation Who's Next.
Sheriff Greg Ward said the nine arrests made over the past week were the result of a six-month operation that included undercover officers making drug buys based on complaints from county residents. Ward said the investigation, the third its kind, was handled by the department's narcotics detectives, Annie Ward and Gerard Herring.
Sheriff Ward said more than half the people arrested were either out on bond for an old arrest, on probation or on parole from a previous drug charge, including other Operation Who's Next investigations. He said all nine people were charged with the distribution of crack cocaine.
"We ought to call it operation repeat because it's some of the same ones again," Ward said. "It seems like they didn't learn their lesson the first time."
Deputies arrested Ella Felder, 61, and her son, Roger Sean Felder, 39, both of Geneva. Ward said Ella Felder has already served time in federal prison for a drug conviction. Her son was out on bond for a prior drug distribution charge in Geneva County. Ella Felder was being held at the Geneva County Jail on a $200,000 bond. Her son was held on a $550,000 bond.
Deputies also arrested two relatives, Ebony Lett, 28, and LaMario Lett, 38, both of Geneva. Ebony Lett was being held at the jail on a $300,000 bond. LaMario Lett was being held on a $100,000 bond.
Investigators also arrested Shanna Collins, 31, of Hartford. Collins was held on a $300,000 bond. Andre Townsend, 28, of Geneva, was charged with three counts of drug distribution. Townsend was being held on a $250,000 bond. Danyell King, 33, of Geneva, was also arrested, and he was being held on a $300,000 bond.
Ward also said two other Geneva men were arrested after they had already been arrested in a prior Operation Who's Next investigation. He said deputies arrested Edwin Sconiers, 25, of Geneva, who he said was on parole. He's being held on a $300,000 bond. He said deputies arrested Michael Dexter Yates, 30, who was on probation.
"He'd already received probation from his previous distribution charge in the last roundup, and he's back out selling again," Ward said. "It's sad you have to catch him two or three times to get them to really serve some time. This is just an example of our how system may not be working in some of these cases."
