A Dothan man charged with murder in the 2005 Christmas Eve shooting of another man will have his day in court Monday.
Circuit Judge Michael Conaway is scheduled to preside over the trial of Vincent Trawick, accused of shooting Zackery Severson just before midnight on Christmas Eve in 2005.
Trawick, 22, was indicted and arrested June 8, 2006, and charged with murder.
Police believe Trawick shot Severson as part of an ongoing dispute. Trawick is being represented by Aaron Gartlan.
Initially a number of rewards were offered for information leading to the arrest of someone in connection to the murder — even $5,000 from Gov. Bob Riley. Then-Dothan Police Chief John Powell said there were “several people from outside who came forward with information that helped in the investigation.
It has been more than four years since Trawick’s arrest. More than 50 people or institutions have been added as parties to the case, meaning they could be witnesses or have records or other information pertinent to the case.
Trawick is also expected to be tried on two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Trawick was arrested in February and May of 2006 on those counts.
Conaway is scheduled to try another murder case. Maurice Brown is scheduled to be tried for the July 2008 shooting of Willie Edward Young, who died of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. When police arrested Brown hours after the shooting, he appeared to be suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
The case could settle before the trial is scheduled to begin.
