A Dothan thrift store was burglarized late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, and the store owners are offering a reward to anyone with information about the burglary.
According to Pam Andrews, a worker at Seven Angels Thrift and Collectibles on North Alice Street, she and store owner Leslie Heath arrived Thursday morning to find the lock busted off the front door and several items stolen, including $139 in cash, a bicycle and several PlayStation games.
Seven Angels supports Andrews’ animal shelter, Pet Pals, which houses more than 200 animals in Gordon.
“We pay close to $3,000 a week for dog food, and we take care of some people, too. We have a homeless guy that’s been living with us for eight years and another guy we took in,” Andrews said. “We don’t get a lot of money coming in, so this really kills us.”
According to Dothan Police Cpl. Rachel David, the burglary likely happened in the early morning hours.
Andrews suspects the culprit may be a customer, and she’s offering a $50 reward to anyone with information on the burglar’s identity.
“We feel like it might’ve been somebody whose been in here, because they knew where we keep our money,” she said. “It might be a younger person because of the stuff they took, the games and the bike. They knew where they were going.”
Pet Pals is a non-kill shelter that has been in service for 35 years, and Andrews said it is in dire need of help.
She and Heath opened the thrift store just nine months ago, aiming to bring in some support for the shelter.
“We could desperately use dog food and anything people want to donate to re-sell, financial help, anything at all,” Andrews said.
Anyone with information on the crime can call CrimeStoppers at 793-7000, and anyone who wants to donate to Seven Angels can call the store at 699-8401.
