Alabama AG to announce stand on casino task force

TUSKEGEE — The commander of the governor's task force on illegal gambling says he expects Alabama attorney general Troy King will announce he is taking over the task force at a Monday afternoon news conference.

If he does, Commander John Tyson said an electronic bingo case from Lowndes County now pending at the State Supreme Court will allow him to immediately challenge King's decision.

Circuit Judge Robert Vance of Birmingham had given King until Monday to say if he would use his authority as attorney general to stop or approve of the task force's actions against the casino at White Hall in Lowndes County.

The Alabama Supreme Court delayed that deadline in an order Friday.

King's office has not disclosed what he will say at the 3 p.m. news conference.
