A new water tower built by Polyengineering and the City of Dothan will provide better water service to residents in the northwest corner of town.
The new tower, which will come online early next year, will improve water pressure in the area, eliminating low pressure to showers and low flow to toilets, said James Brannon, Polyengineering project manager. The improvement will impact 2,500 to 5,000 residents living in the northwest part of town.
Workers lifted the tank on top of its pedestal Wednesday using hydraulic jacks. The jacks used cables to lift the tank up the side of the pedestal, one foot at a time. Work began on the project last December.
The new tank cost $3 million to build. It will hold about 1.5 million gallons of water. It is located on land along Brannon Stand Road donated by Troy University. There are 13 water towers in Dothan.
Money for the project was provided through federal stimulus funds and a loan from the state revolving loan fund.
