Henry County authorities are looking for information in the armed robbery and assault of an Abbeville man who tried to help an apparent stranded motorist.

Investigator Lt. Steve Culbreath said an Abbeville man stopped Sunday around 5 a.m. to help a woman who appeared to be having car trouble on the side of U.S. 431 between Newville and Abbeville. Culbreath said the woman told the Abbeville man that the tire on her four-door Chrysler or Buick was about to fall off. A moment or two later, a man came around the car and struck the Abbeville man across the face with an object that knocked him out. Culbreath said when the victim woke up the woman and man were gone, along with his wallet, cash and cell phone.

Culbreath said the victim was taken to Flowers Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office 585-3131 or Henry County Crime Stoppers at Crime Stoppers 585-5200.
