Police say a Dothan man was shot by his mother, a Dothan Police Officer, in self-defense Saturday afternoon at the officer’s residence.
The Dothan Police Department responded to a shooting at 3278 Third Ave. at about 3:50 p.m. Saturday.
According to a press release from Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton, the officer shot her adult son in self-defense, sending him to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
“The investigation into this shooting is in the earliest stage, (but) a preliminary investigation has revealed there was a documented history of domestic violence in the home between the officer and the officer’s adult son,” Benton’s release said. “Investigators have learned the involved parties have had limited contact following a documented domestic situation which occurred earlier this month. The shooting (that) occurred today appears to involve self-defense on behalf of the officer involved.”
As of Saturday night, police had yet to release the names of the parties involved.
