An argument at a family fish fry near Abbeville over the weekend turned violent, leaving one man dead and his half brother sought by authorities.

Henry County Sheriff William Maddox said Monday that local and federal authorities are looking for Carl Bernard Kennedy, who has been charged with the murder of his half brother, 31-year-old Clarence Williams. He said agents with the U.S. Marshals Service are looking for Kennedy, 46, of Ozark Road, Abbeville, on the murder charge.

Maddox said investigators charged Kennedy with shooting Williams to death after the two men had an argument outside a relative’s mobile home. The shooting happened about five miles east of Abbeville on a dirt road off Henry County Road 59 near the Wells Cross Roads community and Shorterville areas of Henry County.

“I think it was the spur of the moment argument that was pretty heated and ended in murder,” Maddox said.

Maddox said Williams’ shooter was likely only three to four steps away at the time of the shooting.

“It’s pretty brutal when someone shoots someone else in the face with a shotgun,” Maddox said.

Maddox said their investigation showed the shooting happened after Kennedy retrieved what investigators believe was a shotgun from the trunk of his Jaguar. He fled the area in the same white Jaguar. He said investigators have not recovered the murder weapon.

Maddox said it’s not the first time his office has dealt with Kennedy. He said Kennedy was out on bond for a felony cocaine possession charge a week before the shooting.

Maddox said authorities believe Kennedy may have fled to the Miami or Atlanta areas.

“I would consider him to be armed and dangerous,” Maddox said.

Maddox said the Williams murder became the second homicide investigated by Henry County authorities in 2011. He said investigators are still looking for information leading to an arrest in the capital murder investigation of Apolinar “Poli” Perez Jr.

Maddox said police are still looking for Perez’s body, and hope the results from DNA evidence submitted to the state Department of Forensic Sciences will lead to an arrest in the case.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of murder suspect Carl Bernard Kennedy can call Crime Stoppers at (334) 585-5200 or the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (334) 585-3131.
