Dothan utility customers to see rate increase in new year

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Fred Clark, president of the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, announced a rate increase for its member cities, including Dothan.

The City of Dothan, which buys its power from AMEA, will pass that along to the customer. The average increase per household is expected to be about $3.15 per month.

Clark said the rate increase comes from the increased cost of implementing regulations designed to reduce potentially hazardous emissions at its coal power plants. Clark said AMEA gets 52 percent of its electricity from coal power.

Clark said AMEA does not expect increasing rates for another two or three years.
