Derek Wright is thanking God he’s alive and relatively well.
The Henry County coroner understands how fortunate he was to survive a head-on vehicle collision Thursday when he was riding his motorcycle in the Headland town square.
“It was about 3 (p.m.), and a car came over into my lane and hit me head on,” Wright said. “I flew over my handlebars and his car, landed in the road kind of behind his car to the side of him, and he backed up and backed over me. That’s some kind of luck, ain’t it?”
Indeed, Wright was not only struck by the car, but backed over by it as well.
He was out of the hospital by Friday, though, and he said he miraculously has few injuries to show for the experience.
“I’m doing better,” he said. “I don’t have any broken bones. I’m just bruised up bad and have a bunch of road rash on me. That’s called God looking after you.”
The wreck happened in the 100 block of West Church Street.
Wright said he’s relaxing at his home and recovering from his relatively minor injuries.
