Students who walk to school at several Dothan elementary schools will have a safer, more comfortable path soon.
The Dothan City Commission agreed to spend $215,000 during this fiscal year to construct sidewalks around four Dothan schools. The funds will help add sidewalk areas around Jerry Lee Faine, Heard, Selma Street and Hidden Lake schools.
“We have some sidewalk areas around a lot of these schools, but what we want to try to do is connect them together if we can,” said Public Works Director Jerry Corbin.
City Manager Mike West said the goal of the program, known as the “Paving Concrete Sidewalks Adjacent to Elementary Schools” project, is to provide a safer environment for students as well as nearby residents who like to walk around the neighborhood.
Geisler Contracting of Headland will construct the sidewalks.
