Retired U.S. Navy Commander Richard Marcinko is expected to speak at the Ozark Civic Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21. The deadline to purchase $10 tickets to cover lunch at the event is Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell said Marcinko expressed interest in speaking in Ozark on Oct. 21 while he will be visiting Alabama for another event in Etowah County. Blackwell said only 400 seats are available for the event.

“He’s not charging the city anything. He’s just an astounding author, military consultant and motivational speaker who wants to speak here as a tribute to what our veterans and military forces mean to us. He is one of a kind and we are truly honored he will be here,” Blackwell said.

According to his biography, Marcinko enlisted in the Navy in 1958 and is best known as the founder and first commanding officer of Navy SEAL Team 6 and RED CELL, two of the military’s counter-terrorist units.

On May 1, federal authorities said members of SEAL Team 6 killed Bin Laden at a compound in Pakistan.

Marcinko has earned 34 citations and medals that include the Legion of Merit, the Silver Star and four Bronze Stars, according to his bio. He is the author of The Domino Theory, a book about terrorist activity in Pakistan that was released this year.
