OZARK—A middle school teacher resigned from his position last week amid controversy over the use of his personal computer on school grounds, according to officials.
Ozark City Schools Superintendent Mike Lenhart confirmed Brian Schenk, a first-year art teacher at D.A. Smith Middle School, resigned earlier last week. Lenhart said Schenk submitted his resignation after meeting with administrative officials about “inappropriate” content that was discovered on a personal computer Schenk allowed students to use at the school.
Lenhart said while there was nothing criminal involved in the incident, the admitted actions were not tolerable in the district when assuring the best environment for its students and staff.
“There was nothing illegal about his actions and there was no improper use of school equipment. However, teachers are held to a higher standard of integrity,” Lenhart said.
“When a teacher’s integrity or credibility is compromised, what’s best for the school and the students may be the teacher’s consideration of employment elsewhere.”
Lenhart said Schenk was hired as the school’s art teacher in the fall.
