Headland council increases salaries for next administration

»  Comments | Post a Comment

HEADLAND—Headland councilmen voted unanimously on Monday to increase the salaries of the mayor and the council for the first time in nearly 30 years.

The council approved increasing the mayor’s salary from $800 per month to $1,500 and council members’ salaries from $300 to $395.

The changes will be effective for the next administration. Each municipality in the state must set the salaries for the next administration by the end of this month.

Headland Mayor Ray Marler said the council hadn’t changed the salaries since 1984.

The salaries were still less than those of neighboring Abbeville, he said, despite Headland having more residents.

“It was just time,” Marler said. “These aren’t changes that will affect the current administration, but they will be in place for the next one.”
