A Dothan man facing more than two dozen child pornography-related charges recently received a 26-year prison sentence after he pleaded guilty.
Attorney Eric Davis said his client, 34-year-old Steven Wallace Davidson Jr., pleaded guilty to a single felony count of production of child pornography and 25 felony counts of possession of child pornography.
Davis said his client turned down a plea offer from the Houston County District Attorney’s Office. But he said Davidson decided to enter what’s referred to as a blind guilty plea, which left the sentence solely up to the judge with no recommendation from the prosecution.
Davis said Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson sentenced Davidson to 21 years in prison for the production charge, and five years for the first child pornography possession charge, which were to run consecutively with each other. He said all the other child pornography possession charges were to run concurrently with the five-year possession charge.
If convicted of the class A felony charge of production of child pornography, Davidson faced 10 to 99 years or life in prison, similar to that of murder.
According to an earlier Dothan Eagle report, Davidson had been held in the Houston County Jail on $1 million bail after prosecutors said a search of his home revealed between 1,000 and 2,000 pictures of children.
Dothan police investigators originally arrested Davidson in July 2011. Lt. Tony Luker said the evidence for the production of child pornography charge was for images downloaded from the internet.
Police said earlier that some pictures of children were taken by Davidson while he worked at a local Walmart. The investigation revealed that Davidson followed children into the restroom of the Walmart and took pictures of them with his cell phone.
But Luker said shortly after Davidson’s arrest that the pornography charges were only for images downloaded from the internet.
