A Dothan teenager recently received a sentence of 15 years behind bars for shooting another teen as he rode a bicycle.
Assistant Houston County District Attorney Banks Smith said a jury convicted 19-year-old Malcolm Austin late last week for felony first-degree assault, a lesser offense than the attempted murder charge police originally filed against him.
Records indicate Circuit Court Judge Butch Binford sentenced Austin to the 15-year prison term. Attorney Matt Lamere represented Austin at trial.
Dothan police arrested Austin and two brothers, Kevin and Brandon Davidson, in September 2010, for their alleged involvement in the shooting.
All three teens were charged in a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy with three gunshot wounds. The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mendheim Drive and Brackin Drive, which is just off South Park Avenue. The victim was shot in the arm, in the buttocks and the forehead.
Records indicate Austin will receive nearly one year and five months of credit for time already served behind bars.
Kevin Davidson, 20, was convicted of an attempted murder charge last August, and records indicate Circuit Court Judge Kevin Moulton sentenced him to 35 years in prison.
Smith said Kevin Davidson was convicted of supplying the gun to his brother, Brandon, for the shooting. He said Brandon Davidson was the second alleged shooter.
Brandon Davidson, 18, has an attempted murder charge that remains pending, which is set for trial next month.
