OZARK — Ozark school board members have unanimously approved the second phase of the new Carroll High School construction project, which will include meshing a renovated portion of the old building in with the new building.
According to Chuck Jones of Godwin Jones Architecture and Interior Design, bids will go out soon for about $1.6 million of construction of about 30,000 square feet of the current gym, band, JROTC and weight room area.
Jones said renovations will include a shooting range, chief’s offices, two classrooms, computer labs, toilets and restrooms in the JROTC department, while the lobby of a new gym will tie together the current gym, weight room and band room to make a new weight room and physical education area.
The stage area in the current gym and three classrooms directly across from the gym will also be renovated, Jones said.
“The gym and the stage will have a refinished floor, repainted walls and ceilings with a minimal sound system to amplify sound and some theatrical lighting that can be expanded. They’re a lot of intricate details, but basically we’ll be cleaning the exterior up as well to match the rest of the new facility,” he said.
Jones said the JROTC department is expected to cost around $900,000, while the other renovations could cost around $700,000.
The school system received a Qualified School Construction Bond in the amount of $22,074,000 in September 2010 for the entire new high school project.
