Dothan police recently added more police presence to the Grove Park neighborhood after a report of a suspicious person.
Dothan Police Maj. Steve Parrish said a report came in to police last Friday of a suspicious person knocking on a Grove Park resident’s door after the man had already been seen by the resident at a nearby shopping center.
“We worked on identifying the individual over a three to four day period, and it’s being investigated by our criminal investigation division,” Parrish said.
Parrish said police have canvassed the neighborhoods and talked to some residents, which helped them identify the person.
“We have bicycle patrols in place, we’ve beefed up the vehicle patrols in the area as well as undercover vehicles,” Parrish said.
Parrish said a community meeting has been scheduled for Monday, Feb. 27. He said Dothan City Commissioner Taylor Barbaree will be at the meeting, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Terrace at Grove Park.
“As far as any criminal acts , we’re hoping that none will occur, but we’ll be ready to respond in the case that they do,” Parrish said. “I think this has served as a catalyst for the residents to start a neighborhood watch program in the community. One of the fortunate byproducts of having a suspicious person in your neighborhood is it raises community awareness.”
Parrish said no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
“We will continue to patrol the area and identify anybody suspicious,” Parrish said. “We encourage citizens in the area to contact the police department with any suspicious people walking in the neighborhood.”
