Shadow, a Great Dane mix, needs a home after authorities recently charged a Daleville man with neglecting three dogs, including Shadow.
Dale County Sheriff’s Investigator Harvey Mathis said he arrested 22-year-old Shaun Overton on Tuesday and charged him with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
Mathis said the charges stemmed from the seizure of three dogs from a residence on Dale County Road 109 near Level Plains just before the Thanksgiving holiday last year.
“He allegedly left three dogs chained to a house he used to live in, in Level Plains,” Mathis said.
Shortly after the dogs were seized, Mathis said two of them died. He said the third dog, Shadow, survived. He said that dog is being kept at the Ozark Animal Control facility.
Mathis said he found out about the dogs after neighbors reported neglected animals to the Dale County Sheriff’s Office. Mathis said the dogs were likely left at the home for two to three weeks before he found them. He said Overton signed a release of the Great Dane mix dog on Tuesday.
Mathis said Overton was taken to the Dale County Jail and held on $1,000 bail for each charge.
