The circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 2-year-old boy in Geneva County on New Year’s Eve remain under investigation by the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Tony Helms said the boy was shot in the arm at a mobile home on Triumph Road in the Bellwood community on Saturday. He said the boy was taken to a hospital in Geneva, and later transferred to a hospital in Birmingham. He said the boy did not suffer life threatening injuries.

Helms said while relatives took the boy to the hospital, a fire started in their mobile home. He said the fire destroyed the home.
