A Cowarts woman received a 15-year prison sentence on Thursday for her involvement in the armed robbery of an area donut shop.
Houston County District Attorney Doug Valeska said 20-year-old Kandice McLendon pleaded guilty to a felony first-degree robbery charge, and received her sentence by Judge Ed Jackson.
Valeska also said McLendon received a five-year sentence for each of her four felony counts of unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, which were all to run concurrently with the armed robbery. Valeska said Jackson filled in for Circuit Court Judge Kevin Moulton.
Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested McLendon in July 2010. McLendon was the last of four people to be sentenced for their involvement in the robbery, which happened at the Loyless Donuts shop in Ashford around 3:45 a.m. on May 19, 2010.
Nicholas Aaron Bush received a 20-year sentence for his first-degree robbery charge.
Cody Postema and Cody Pippin both received 25-year prison sentences for their involvement.
“She was the driver of the vehicle,” Valeska said.
Valeska said McLendon told law enforcement about the robbery after she was arrested on the breaking and entering charges. He said McLendon was allowed to remain free on bail, and was given a Feb. 1 date to turn herself in to authorities to serve her 15-year sentence.
Valeska said McLendon has similar charges pending in Florida.
Prosecutors already released information that Postema pleaded guilty to carrying a handgun during the robbery. Prosecutors also said Pippin confessed to his involvement in the robbery, which included carrying a golf club during the robbery.
Prosecutors called the robbery an unsuccessful one after none of the suspects escaped with any property. The suspects apparently left the store after they thought the owner pushed a silent alarm.
