A Columbia man out on bail related to charges of allegedly molesting a teenage girl now faces additional charges involving the same victim.
Court records show Houston County Sheriff’s investigators arrested Todd Johnathan Whitehead, 39, of Bill Yance Road, in August 2010, and charged him with first-degree sex abuse of a teenage girl. Records show he was later served with a felony three-count indictment also charging him with two counts of first-degree rape involving the same victim.
Records indicate the sex abuse offense allegedly happened in August 2010.
Court records show Whitehead was up for trial this week on those charges, but Circuit Court Judge Brad Mendheim granted a delay of the trial, which was requested by Whitehead’s attorney, Billy Joe Sheffield II.
Houston County Sheriff’s investigators recently filed four additional felony charges against Whitehead involving the same victim. Investigators, according to court records, charged Whitehead with two counts of second-degree rape and two counts of incest.
Whitehead was released from custody at the Houston County Jail on the new charges after he posted $30,000 bail per charge.
If convicted of the first-degree rape charges, Whitehead faces 10 to 99 years or life in prison for the class A felony crimes. If convicted of the second-degree rape charges, Whitehead faces two to 20 years in prison. If convicted of the sex abuse and incest charges he faces one to 10 years in prison for the class C felony crimes.
