Troy University online bachelor’s and master’s programs were recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report.
The magazine, which publishes annual reviews of America’s colleges and universities, named Troy to its honor roll of “Top Online Education Programs.”
This year is the first year the magazine has published “Top Online Education Program” rankings.
Troy’s online bachelor’s degree program in education and its graduate degree programs in nursing, education and business made the magazine’s honor roll for online programs. Programs were assessed on student engagement and assessment, faculty credentials and training and student services and technology. For the graduate degree rankings, programs were assessed on accreditation instead of student assessment, and admissions selectivity was also a factor.
Troy’s online education bachelor’s program ranked third of 170 schools for teaching practices and student engagement and fifth for student services and technology. Troy’s online ranked 12th of 150 schools for student services and technology and 62nd for teaching practices and engagement and 39th for admissions selectivity. The university’s graduate program in education ranked 21st of 150 in student services and technology and third in teaching practices and student engagement. Troy’s graduate nursing program ranked ninth of 83 schools for student services and technology, 26th in admissions selectivity and fifth in teaching practices and student engagement.
Deb Gearhart, director of eTroy, said Troy offers 13 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs in a variety of majors and concentrations online.
Gearhart said 14,245 Troy students take online courses and about 8,200 are taking all of their coursework in their degree program online.
The university plans to expand its online program, Gearhart said, adding four to five more degree programs online.
