An Opp man died early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash after he appeared to be trying to avoid being stopped by an Alabama state trooper.

According to a statement from Alabama State Trooper Gregory Eubanks, 40-year-old Michael Brandon Nobles died after the Dodge pickup truck he was driving ran off the roadway, overturned and caught fire.

The statement said the crash happened around 1:35 a.m. on Coffee County Road 452 about 2.5 miles northeast of Kinston. Nobles was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and was ejected.

The statement said the crash was the result of Nobles’ failure to stop his vehicle after a trooper attempted to stop his vehicle for a routine traffic violation.
