Television shows used to be made with much more quality than they are today. Shows like I Love Lucy, Hogan’s Heroes and The Dick van Dyke Show used to rule the television. Programs like these were charming; they didn’t need the perversion and coarse innuendos that can be seen today in comedies like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. No, the appeal of these older shows was in their dialogue; they were innocent, witty and never offensive.
Sadly, politics in America has evolved similarly to television. Today’s political candidates are not taken seriously unless they are attractive, rich and oratorically brilliant. In other words, ideas cannot win an election; in fact, ideas are probably less important than the quality of one’s suit or the color of his tie.
Perhaps this version of politics is the choice of the American people, though it is far from unique. Allowing a corrupt culture to shape the minds of citizens is what led to the creation of many European socialist societies. Unless America wakes up, she will also become a socialist state, and I don’t think that is where most Americans wish to end up.
