A Dec. 20, 2011, article, “Church Leaders Urge Repeal,” stated that a group of religious leaders had written a letter to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley seeking repeal or revision of what they called, “an unjust and unfair law.” They were referring to Alabama’s immigration law.
If an immigrant comes to our state (or any state), and the state has no record of who they are, where they are from or their reason for locating in that state, it is my opinion that the immigrant should not have the rights or privilege to register to vote like all Americans do. If we do not get control of illegal immigration, we can expect more 9/11 attacks across America.
The attorney representing these church leaders, Augusta Dowd, stated that the leaders were seeing people that are in the United States legally but were afraid to show up for services. Why are they afraid if they have legal immigration papers?
Augusta Dowd used integration during the 1950s and 1960s to make a comparison to not letting illegal immigrants vote. There is a vast difference. African-American citizens had been brought to America as slaves hundreds of years ago. None had ever been given the privilege to vote as American citizens. Immigrants desiring to come to America must abide by our laws and seek American citizenship in order to have the same rights.
It was President Abraham Lincoln, the first Republican president, who set African Americans free. It is the Democrats, led by President Obama, that are trying to use the vote of illegal immigrants to get re-elected.
Obama used ACORN to register many illegal people in 2008. ACORN was supposed to be investigated after the 2008 election. The organization changed its name and we have not heard anything else.
I pray that our state and national leaders will enforce the laws relating to immigration in our state and country. The Democrats had control of the legislature for more than 100 years before 2011 and had done nothing to stop or change illegal immigration. It seems that our current Republican governor and legislature are trying to do what was said in the article. They are striving to ensure that every individual in Alabama obeys the law for the safety and sovereignty of our great state.
