ENTERPRISE - Chandler Avant drilled a three-run homer over the Troy Bank & Trust sign in center field that tied the game in the top of the fourth and got out of a huge jam in the bottom of the inning when entering on the mound as Troy beat Louisiana 11-9 late Sunday night in the Junior Dixie Boys World Series.
Troy will play Georgia on Monday at 1 p.m., then will play again at 7 p.m. in either a winner's bracket or loser's bracket game.
Moments after Avant's homer to tie it at 8-8, Chase Smartt doubled home John Johnson, who had walked, to bring in the seventh run of the inning with nobody out. Myles Loving later doubled in Smartt to make it an eight-run inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Louisiana loaded the bases with nobody out and Avant entered in relief to pitch. He then got out of the inning by allowing just one run, and shut down Louisiana the rest of the way.
Louisiana opened an 8-2 lead through three innings, before Troy stormed back.
Singles by Loving and Taylor Lord and a walk to Brian Adams loaded the bases. John Michael Stephens, the fourth Troy pitcher in three innings, hit a bloop single to drive in a run.
Blake Craft hit a hard grounder that the third baseman couldn’t grab and two more runs scored. Avant followed with his home run.
Louisiana’s Quincy Graves singled home a run and scored in the first, and doubled home two runs and scored in the second. The team from Monroe added two more runs in the third to make it 8-2.
Texas 3, South Carolina 2 (11 innings): The team from Sumter led 2-0 early, but the Texans from Texarkana battled back to tie the game before winning it in extra innings.
