SEC Media Days set to kick off

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Don’t look for many answers as SEC Media Days kicks off today at the Winfrey Hotel in Hoover.

But do look for questions. A lot of them.

The league’s football coaches run the media gauntlet over the next three days.

Ayanna Wakefield, assistant director of media relations for the SEC, said Monday that 959 media credentials have been issued for the annual event.

Commissioner Mike Slive will open the three-day program today at 12:30 p.m. The head coach and two players will represent each school. Vanderbilt’s Bobby Johnson, cornerback Myron Lewis and center Bradley Vierling are in the first afternoon rotation with Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino, defensive tackle Derek Sherrod and tight end D.J. Williams.

New Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen will be joined by Bulldog offensive lineman Derek Sherrod and linebacker K.J. Wright. Kentucky coach Rich Brooks, tackle Zipp Duncan and cornerback Trevard Lindley will also take their turn this afternoon.

Thursday’s star-studded lineup includes Nick Saban, who will bring guard Mike Johnson and linebacker Rolando McClain.

They will make the rounds with Georgia’s Mark Richt, who is with quarterback Joe Cox and defensive tackle Jeff Owens.

Later Thursday, coach Houston Nutt, safety Kendrick Lewis and quarterback Jevan Snead of Ole Miss will take the stage.

Florida is next with coach Urban Meyer, linebacker Brandon Spikes and some quarterback named Tim Tebow — who has won two national championship rings and a Heisman Trophy in his first three seasons.

On Friday, new Auburn coach Gene Chizik will appear with Tiger tight end Tommy Trott and defensive end Antonio Coleman.

They will rotate with South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier and Gamecocks wide receiver Moe Brown and linebacker Eric Norwood.

The final session will feature new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, Vols safety Eric Berry and running back Montario Hardesty.
They will rotate with LSU’s Les Miles, tackle Ciron Black and linebacker Jacob Cutrera.

As mentioned, the questions will come quickly. The answers will come over the next few months.
