Alabama players to sign autographs at Northcutt Field

Alabama football players Leigh Tiffin and Cory Reamer are working out, preparing for the opportunity to sign with an NFL team and continue their football careers on the next level.

But today, they will be doing a different kind of signing. Tiffin, the first team All-American placekicker, and Reamer, a linebacker and special teams standout, will be in Dothan today for an autograph session.

The Alabama players will sign for fans from 4-6 p.m. at Northcutt Field in Wiregrass Park. Ironically, their appearance is baseball related.

The event is part of a Dothan Post 12 fundraiser and coincides with the first day of high school baseball season. Rehobeth and Providence Christian open today at Northcutt with a doubleheader at 5 p.m.

Entry into the park is $8. That fee includes admission both to the game and to the autograph session.

Reamer and Tiffin continue training for a couple of big auditions in front of NFL scouts. Tiffin has been invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which begins Feb. 24. He also spent a week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile with many of those same scouts looking on.

“I feel like I did well,” said Alabama’s career leader with 385 points and 83 field goals — a nation’s best 30 in his senior season. “I had a pretty good week down there.”

Reamer, whose versatility was key to the Alabama defense when Dont’a Hightower was lost for the season with a knee injury, is preparing for Alabama’s Pro Day on March 10.

Through his agent, Joel Turner, Reamer said he’s gotten “pretty good feedback” from NFL teams.

“Going to the Combine would have been nice, but you’ve got to make the most with what you’re given,” said the senior from Hoover. “All the teams are coming down to our Pro Day, so it’ll be a big opportunity for a lot of us.”

Tiffin and Reamer have done a few autograph days in north Alabama.

“We did four straight hours in Cullman, so I think we can handle two hours in Dothan,” Tiffin said.

Reamer credited Dothan Post 12 manager Larry Tubbs — Rehobeth’s baseball coach — for coordinating the event.

Coach Tubbs has been great to deal with,” Reamer said. “He’s very understanding of our schedules and he’s been more than accommodating to make this happen.”

Tubbs said he appreciated the players putting their preparations on hold for a few hours.

“I’m really pleased these guys could come and help us out like this,” Tubbs said.

The coach said fans are limited to bringing two items for the players to sign.

Fans can get photos made with the players.

Action shots of Reamer and Tiffin that the players will sign will be available for $10.
