Roundup: Rehobeth holds off Carroll in double overtime

REHOBETH – Rehobeth avoided a big upset and edged Carroll 55-52 in double overtime in the first round of the Class 5A, Area 3 Tournament. Rehobeth improved to 14-14, and Carroll’s season ended at 4-26.

Justin Blaha’s 3-pointer gave Carroll a 52-50 lead in the final minute. Ethan Jacobs hit a three for Rehobeth with 30 seconds left to give Rehobeth a 53-52 lead. After a defensive stop, Drake Rogers hit two free throws to ice the game.

Josh Thompson led Rehobeth with 16 points and Corey Perkins scored 14. For Carroll, Jason Siples scored 20 and Daulton Keel scored 12.

Charles Henderson 45, Eufaula 43 : DeQuante Shockley got a steal and Devon Woods scored at the buzzer to give CHHS the win. Tyler Mitchell led CHHS with 14 points and Da’Vantez Jackson scored 13. For Eufaula, Jaylin Robinson scored 21 and Robert Brown scored 11.

CLASS 4A, AREA 3

Headland 75, Ashford 55: Dexter Marsh scored scored 33 with four blocks, and DiShon McKay scored 16 with nine rebounds.

Devon Gooden led Ashford with 21 points and Rafael Alvarado scored 11.

Andalusia 60, Straughn 27 : Jacard Townsend led Andalusia with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Lakelyus Adams scored 11. Hobie Hughes led Straughn with eight points.

Andalusia and Headland play at 7 p.m. Monday in the title game.

CLASS 3A, AREA 3

Daleville 47, Slocomb 23: Jacques Coleman scored 13 and Robert McGirt 10 for Daleville (22-5). Daleville held Slocomb scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Abbeville 70, Dale County 52: Jaylin Porter scored 20 for Abbeville. Calvin Spencer scored 13 and Dondre Brown 11. James Crawford scored 21 for Dale County.

Abbeville plays Daleville Monday in the finals at 6 p.m.

CLASS 3A, AREA 2

Pike County 49, Opp 47: Marlon Meadows led PCHS with 15 points. Derek Savage, with 16 points, lead the Bobcats (7-17) in the loss. Tavise Stoudemire had 13 points.

Luverne 65, Geneva 51 : Quindarius Thagard scored 23 to lead Luverne. Tavares McIntyre scored 16 and Nihle Daniels 10 to lead Geneva.

CLASS 2A, AREA 4

Barbour County 72, Ariton 42: The Jaguars (28-0) were led by Tak’wain Whigham with 20 points and Nicholas Johnson with 12. Deonte Michel led Ariton with 18 points and Seth Senn scored 13.

Wicksburg 57, G.W. Long 22 : Davian Johnson led Wicksburg, which plays Barbour County in the area finals Monday at 7:30 p.m., with 11 points and Diquan Fenn scored 10.

CLASS 2A, AREA 2

Elba 62, Samson 46: Kobe Goosby had 17 points, Harry Griffith 15 and Jake Carnley 12 to lead Elba (16-6).

D.J. Hornsby had 16 points and Phillip Coleman 10 for Samson (11-16).

Class 1A , AREA 4

Pleasant Home boys 56, Kinston 29: Josh O'Neal led the Eagles with 19 points; Kaleb Powell and Lance Davis had 10 points each; Tyler Worley had nine points; and Ty Bass had eight points.

Pleasant Home girls 51, Kinston 18 : Raven Woods had 23 points; Jade Self and Mary Schwartz had six points each. Pleasant Home led 13-12 at halftime.

CLASS 1A, AREA 3

Georgiana 72, Brantley 61: Adrian Rich scored 24 points, leading four Panthers in double figures. Rodney Cheatham and Keon Binion had 16 points and Rickey Everett 10.

For Brantley, which finished the year 19-11, Chester Person had 18 points and O.J. Guice and Matthew Holmes had 11 points each.

Georgiana (21-7) faces the J.F. Shields/McKenzie winner in Monday’s championship.

GIRLS

Emmanuel Christian 60, West Florida Baptist Academy 22: Jessica Wheeler earned MVP honors, scoring 17 with 11 rebounds in the East Regional Final. Kasey Clements scored 18 and Taylor Schartau scored 10. Wheeler, Clements, Destinee Vickers and Alexis Johnson-Clark were named to the all-conference team.

BOYS

Emmanuel Christian 55, Gateway 39: Tournament MVP John Michael Lankford scored 20 and Cody Lewis scored 10.

In the semifinal earlier, ECS beat Calvary Christian 67-29. Lankford, Lewis and Matthew West scored 12 each.

Both Emmanuel’s boys and girls teams will host the Final Four beginning on Friday.
