Emmanuel Christian teams reach title games

The Emmanuel Christian boys and girls basketball teams advanced to the championship games of the Panhandle Christian Conference Final Four being held at Emmanuel Christian in Dothan.

The Emmanuel girls defeated Alethia of Pensacola 40-29 on Friday and will play Central-Christian today at 1 p.m. for the championship.

In the win over Alethia, Alexis Johnson-Clark scored 17 to lead the way, while Jessica Wheeler added 12 and Casey Clements 10.

Alethia was led by Hannah Jones with 11 and Savannah Quinn with 10.

Central-Christian defeated West Florida in the other semifinal, 48-22, as Carrie Coker and McKenna Fountain each scored 19 for Central.

West Florida was led by Kayliegh Cook with six.

The Emmanuel boys defeated S.L. Jones 66-50 on Friday and will face Alethia in the title game today at 2:30.

For Emmanuel, John Michael Lankford scored 27 points to lead the way.

S.L. Jones was led by GeeQuawn Grandison with nine points.

In the other boys semifinal, Alethia defeated Gateway Academy of Bonifay 58-40 as Patrick Everett scored 22 for Alethia, and James Birdsell scored 16 for Gateway.

The girls consolation game between West Florida and Alethia will begin at 10 a.m. today, followed by the boys consolation game between S.L. Jones and Gateway at 11:30 a.m.

AHSAA Sub-Regionals

Class 5A

Selma 81, Rehobeth 58: Demonno Gunn led four in double figures with 20 points to lead Selma.

Ladarrius Mack led Rehobeth (14-16) with 16 points. Josh Thompson had 13 and Corey Perkins 11.

Wilcox Central 53, Charles Henderson 49: Tyler Mitchell and Devante Jackson had 14 points each and Robert Lee 11 for Charles Henderson (16-15).

Class 3A

Luverne 89, Abbeville 70: The Yellow Jackets ended the season at 15-14. Luverne (24-5) advances to play Montgomery Academy on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in Mobile at the South Regional.

Class 4A

Brewbaker Tech 77, Headland 69: Dishon McKay had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Dexter March 17 points and nine rebounds for Headland (23-9).

Post players Steve Rogers and Paul Harris had 24 and 17, respectively to lead Brewbaker Tech.

Andalusia 53, Alabama Christian 47: Jacard Townsend scored 15, while Sam Byrd and Niguel Jones each contributed 11 for the Bulldogs (19-13).

Alabama Christian was led by Danny Madison with 18 and Mack Self with 12.

Andalulsia will play Monroe County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night in the South Regional in Mobile.

Class 2A

Elba 73, Cottage Hill 64 (OT): Cobe Goosby scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists for the Tigers.

The game was tied 58-58 at the end of regulation after Cottage Hill hit a shot at the buzzer.

In the overtime period, Goosby scored six and Jake Carnley five for Elba.

Harry Griffin contributed 21 for Elba, while Carnley scored 14.

Elba will play Barbour County in the South Regional in Mobile on Wednsday at 10:30 a.m.

Class 2A

Barbour County 66, Houston Academy 33: Nicholas Johnson scored 18 in leading the Jaguars (30-0).

Willie Eutsey contributed 10 while Takwain Whigham and Emmanuel Thompson each scored nine.

Houston Academy was led by Gabe Sheffield with 14 and Chris Johnson with nine points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Barbour County will play Elba in the South Regional in Mobile on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Class 1A

Georgiana 51, Pleasant Home 41: Lee Curry scored 13, while Rickey Everett and Keon Binion each scored 10 for Georgiana (21-8).

Pleasant Home was led by Lance Davis with 12 and Josh O’Neal with 10.

Georgiana plays Linden at 1:30 Tuesday in the South Regional in Mobile.

Class 1A

J.F. Shields 104, Geneva County 67: Geneva County scored a season-high, but J.F. Shields hit 21 3-pointers in earning the win.

Karon White had 27 points and Rico Lawson 17 for Geneva County.
